Background
Mediafin, a Belgian leading media company, collaborated with CloudSisters to conduct a thorough audit of their AWS environment. The goal was to gain clear insights into their current setup, identify inefficiencies, and align the infrastructure with AWS best practices. This collaboration marked the beginning of an extensive optimization of their cloud environment.

Thorough Analysis and Visualization of the Environment
We started the project with a comprehensive audit of Mediafin's AWS environment. Every aspect of their infrastructure was carefully analyzed and mapped, resulting in a clear and complete overview of all active workloads. This analysis revealed critical insights into their cost structure and underscored the need for optimization.
Modernization Strategy
Following the audit, we worked collaboratively with Mediafin to create a detailed migration and optimization plan.
Key elements of this strategy included:
- A migration strategy designed to align with AWS best practices.
- The implementation of an AWS Organization structure to improve management and governance
- Splitting AWS accounts to separate applications, production, and non-production workloads for enhanced security and cost management.
Modernization and Automation
All migrations and configurations were carried out using OpenTofu (Terraform) to ensure infrastructure as code principles were adhered to. Automated pipelines were deployed to streamline and standardize the process, providing consistency and reducing the potential for human error.

• Lower Infrastructure Costs: Through active FinOps, we significantly reduced costs. We purchased reserved capacity, optimized the EC2 instances of each workload, and consolidated resources such as load balancers.
